The testing was done on the same day back-to-back and temperatures were monitored to ensure consistency. Each tube has an integrated MAF sensor mount which is CNC machined from aluminium. The shorter left side tube smoothly transitions from the carbon housing down to the turbo inlet tube. The longer right side intake tube has to clear the fan shroud and strut brace. To do so we employed the same principle as the stock tube in changing the cross section from a circle at the turbo inlet tube to an oval for clearance over the shroud, then back to a circle at the filter housing end. This carbon duct has been designed to fit over the stock cold air duct and direct ambient air from the scoop into the filter. It seals against the engine bay heat whilst still allowing some air entry from the cold side of the engine bay where the hood meets the wing. In addition, there is a heat shield attached to the side which blocks the hot air from the radiator and the alternator from directly impacting onto the carbon housing. This is an improvement over aftermarket metal chargepipes which often have welds between the flange and the tubes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e3) STRENGTH : The final criteria was to increase the structural strength of the chargepipes over the OEM versions. It is becoming increasingly common for the OEM chargepipes to fail especially with tuned cars running higher boost levels. By using a cross-directional carbon weave layup with multiple layers to form a 2mm wall thickness, our chargepipes provide an incredibly strong solution for reliable operation even with larger turbos. Furthermore we have embedded CNC machined stainless steel rings into the openings where the clamps are tightened to ensure the pipes maintain their shape even under high clamping forces.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn order to increase the structural reliability of the carbon chargepipes we have not added methanol ports into them. The construction utilises multiple carbon layers which are applied with cross directional weave patterns to increase the strength of the part. Each pipe has machined stainless steel rings embedded in the openings to provide extra strength in the clamping areas. The pipes have smooth bends and reliefs to provide an efficient flow path for the pressurised air to negotiate from the turbos to the cooler.
