BC Racing ER Series True Rear Coilovers – BMW M2 F87 2016-2018
The BC Racing ER Series True Rear Coilovers for the BMW M2 F87 (2016-2018) are an advanced, track-focused suspension upgrade combining independent 2-way damping adjustment, external reservoirs and a true rear coilover conversion.
Unlike the standard F87 rear suspension layout, where the spring and damper are mounted separately, the True Rear configuration relocates the rear spring onto the damper to create a complete rear coilover assembly.
Combined with separate compression and rebound adjustment, the ER Series True Rear kit provides a highly adjustable suspension platform for serious fast-road, track and competition-focused F87 M2 builds.
Why choose BC Racing ER Series True Rear for your F87 M2?
The F87 M2 is an excellent platform for track development, and the ER Series is aimed at drivers who want considerably more suspension adjustment than a conventional single-adjustable coilover.
Compression and rebound damping can be adjusted independently, allowing you to make more precise changes to how the M2 responds during braking, acceleration, cornering and changes in surface.
The external reservoirs increase damper oil capacity and improve heat management during sustained hard driving, while the True Rear configuration converts the factory-style divorced rear suspension into a complete coilover assembly.
For M2s seeing regular circuit use, the ER Series True Rear provides the adjustment needed to develop the suspension around tyres, alignment, spring rates and circuit conditions.

True Rear Coilover Conversion
The major difference between this kit and the conventional BC Racing F87 M2 ER Series is the rear suspension layout.
The standard F87 M2 uses a divorced rear arrangement, meaning the spring and damper are positioned separately.
With the True Rear configuration, the rear spring is mounted concentrically around the damper, creating a complete rear coilover assembly.
This provides a more conventional motorsport-style suspension layout and is particularly suited to owners developing their M2 around regular track use.
Independent Compression & Rebound Adjustment
The defining feature of the ER Series is its independent 2-way damping adjustment.
Rather than using a single adjuster to alter compression and rebound together, the ER Series allows the two characteristics to be tuned separately.
Compression adjustment allows you to influence how the suspension responds as the damper compresses, while rebound adjustment controls its behaviour as the suspension extends again.
This provides considerably greater setup flexibility than the BR Series and allows experienced drivers or suspension specialists to fine-tune the chassis around specific conditions.
External Reservoirs
The ER Series uses external reservoirs to increase the amount of oil within the damper system and improve heat management.
During prolonged track driving, repeated suspension movement generates heat within the dampers. Increased oil capacity helps manage temperature and maintain more consistent damping characteristics throughout a session.
This makes the ER Series particularly suitable for F87 M2s that regularly see demanding circuit use.
BMW F87 M2 Track Suspension
The ER Series True Rear provides a highly adjustable platform for developing the handling of the F87 M2.
Separate compression and rebound adjustment allows the suspension to be configured around performance tyres, alignment settings, spring rates and other chassis modifications.
The kit can work alongside upgrades such as adjustable suspension arms, uprated bushes, anti-roll bars and more aggressive track geometry.
After installation, we recommend having the vehicle professionally aligned. Track-focused builds can also benefit from corner weighting and a geometry setup developed around the vehicle's intended use.
Choosing Your Spring Rate
Spring-rate selection is particularly important with a True Rear F87 M2 setup.
The factory F87 rear suspension positions the spring separately from the damper and therefore has a different motion ratio to a spring mounted directly around the rear damper.
Because of this, spring rates from a conventional divorced rear F87 coilover setup should not be directly transferred to a True Rear configuration.
The appropriate spring rate should instead be selected specifically for the True Rear layout, taking into account vehicle weight, tyre choice, alignment, aerodynamic load and intended use.
If you're unsure which spring-rate specification is appropriate for your M2, contact us before ordering and we can help you select a suitable setup.
Important True Rear Considerations
A True Rear coilover configuration transfers spring load through the rear damper mounting location rather than the factory spring location.
Because this changes how suspension loads are transferred into the chassis, the condition and suitability of the relevant mounting points should be considered when installing a True Rear setup.
Professional installation is recommended, particularly for vehicles intended for regular track or competition use. The suspension, mounting hardware and relevant chassis mounting points should also be inspected periodically.
Maintenance & Servicing
The ER Series is a rebuildable high-performance suspension system designed for demanding use.
The damper bodies, external reservoirs, hoses, adjustment mechanisms and mounting hardware should be kept clean and inspected regularly.
Cars seeing frequent track use should be inspected and serviced appropriately to maintain consistent damping performance and maximise the service life of the suspension.
F87 M2 Compatibility
This kit is specifically for the original BMW M2 F87 produced from 2016-2018.
It should not be confused with the later M2 Competition, which uses a separate BC Racing application.
Please confirm your exact vehicle and selected True Rear configuration before ordering.
What's Included?
The BC Racing ER Series True Rear kit is supplied as a complete coilover suspension package for the applicable BMW M2 F87 2016-2018 application, including the application-specific front coilovers, True Rear coilover assemblies, external reservoirs and relevant adjustable components.
