KW V3 Coilovers with Electronic Damper Deactivation – MINI Cooper F56
The KW V3 Coilovers for the MINI Cooper F56 are a premium suspension upgrade designed for drivers who want adjustable ride height combined with independently adjustable compression and rebound damping.
This version is intended for F56 MINI models equipped with factory Dynamic Damper Control and includes the required electronic damper deactivation solution, allowing the original electronically controlled dampers to be replaced without leaving the vehicle with suspension-related warning messages.
With KW’s INOX-LINE stainless-steel construction, vehicle-specific spring and damper tuning and extensive damping adjustment, the V3 is an excellent option for road, fast-road and occasional track-focused MINI builds.
Why choose KW V3 for your MINI F56?
The MINI F56 already has an agile and responsive chassis, but upgrading the suspension can significantly improve body control, steering response and overall handling consistency.
The KW V3 provides considerably more setup flexibility than the V1 or V2 by allowing compression and rebound damping to be adjusted independently.
This allows the suspension to be tailored around driving style, tyre choice, road conditions and intended use rather than relying on a fixed or rebound-only damper setup.
For Cooper S and John Cooper Works owners who want a more advanced suspension package without moving fully into a track-focused Clubsport system, the V3 is one of the most versatile choices in the KW range.

Independent Compression & Rebound Adjustment
The defining feature of the KW V3 is its independent compression and rebound damping adjustment.
Rebound controls how quickly the suspension extends again after being compressed.
Increasing rebound damping can provide stronger body control and a more settled response during braking, cornering and changes of direction.
Reducing rebound can allow the suspension to extend more freely and provide greater compliance over uneven road surfaces.
Compression damping controls how the suspension reacts as the damper is compressed.
This has an influence on the way the car responds under braking, acceleration, cornering load and changes in road surface.
Because compression and rebound can be adjusted independently, the V3 provides significantly more tuning potential than a fixed-damping or rebound-only system.
Electronic Damper Deactivation Included
This version of the KW V3 is intended specifically for MINI F56 models equipped with factory Dynamic Damper Control.
When the original electronically controlled dampers are replaced with conventional KW V3 dampers, the factory electronic damping system can no longer operate.
The included deactivation solution is designed to prevent the vehicle from continuing to expect signals from the original dampers and helps avoid suspension-related warning messages.
Once converted, suspension damping is adjusted manually using the KW compression and rebound controls rather than through the original MINI electronic damper settings.
Adjustable Ride Height
The KW V3 allows the ride height of the MINI F56 to be adjusted at both the front and rear.
This allows owners to:
- Reduce arch gap
- Lower the centre of gravity
- Fine-tune front-to-rear stance
- Adjust ride height around wheel and tyre fitment
- Improve overall appearance
- Balance stance with usable suspension travel
For performance-focused builds, ride height should be selected around suspension travel, geometry and tyre clearance rather than simply setting the car as low as possible.
KW INOX-LINE Stainless-Steel Construction
The KW V3 uses KW’s INOX-LINE stainless-steel construction.
This provides strong corrosion resistance and helps keep the threaded ride-height adjustment areas serviceable over the long term when correctly maintained.
For MINI models used throughout the year in UK conditions, this is a valuable advantage.
Regular cleaning is still recommended, particularly during winter when moisture, dirt and road salt can build up around the suspension.
MINI F56 Suspension Upgrade
The F56 platform responds particularly well to suspension improvements because of its compact dimensions and naturally responsive chassis.
The KW V3 can work particularly well alongside upgrades such as:
- Performance tyres
- Lightweight wheels
- Uprated suspension bushes
- Adjustable suspension arms
- Chassis bracing
- Upgraded anti-roll bars
- Performance brakes
- Fast-road or track-focused wheel alignment
For Cooper S and John Cooper Works models in particular, improved suspension control can help make better use of the available performance and tyre grip.
KW V2 vs KW V3
The KW V2 and V3 both provide adjustable ride height and premium KW construction.
The main difference is damping adjustment.
The V2 provides adjustable rebound damping while compression remains pre-set.
The V3 adds independent compression adjustment, giving the driver significantly greater control over how the car reacts under braking, acceleration and cornering.
For mainly road use where simplicity is important, the V2 remains an excellent option.
For drivers who want greater tuning potential and more detailed chassis control, the V3 is the more advanced choice.
KW V3 vs KW V3 Clubsport
The standard KW V3 is primarily designed for road and fast-road use, while retaining enough adjustability for occasional circuit driving.
The V3 Clubsport takes a more track-focused approach.
It combines independent damping adjustment with more aggressive spring and damper tuning and, where specified, adjustable top mounts.
For a predominantly road-driven F56, the standard V3 will generally provide a better balance between comfort and performance.
For regular track use, high-grip tyres and more aggressive geometry, the V3 Clubsport is the more specialised option.
KW V3 vs Factory Dynamic Damper Control
The factory MINI Dynamic Damper Control system allows the suspension characteristics to be altered electronically from inside the vehicle.
The KW V3 takes a different approach.
Rather than using electronic preset modes, the V3 gives the driver direct manual control over compression and rebound damping.
This allows the suspension to be configured more specifically around the car, tyres and driver.
The trade-off is that the original electronic damper functionality is removed once the KW V3 and cancellation system are installed.
Road, Fast-Road & Occasional Track Use
The KW V3 is particularly well suited to:
- Daily-driven MINI F56 models
- MINI Cooper S models
- MINI John Cooper Works models
- Fast-road builds
- Cars running performance tyres
- Owners wanting independent damping adjustment
- Weekend and enthusiast-driven MINIs
- Occasional track-day use
For regular circuit use or more aggressive chassis setups, a KW Clubsport system may be more appropriate.
Professional Installation & Alignment
Professional installation is strongly recommended for the KW V3.
Because the original electronic dampers are being removed, the cancellation components should be installed correctly alongside the mechanical suspension components.
Once fitted, the MINI should receive a full four-wheel alignment so that toe, camber and other geometry settings can be checked following the change in ride height.
For more performance-focused builds, a specialist fast-road or track geometry setup can further improve steering response and tyre utilisation.
Maintenance
Although KW’s INOX-LINE stainless-steel construction provides strong corrosion resistance, regular suspension maintenance is still recommended.
The following areas should be periodically cleaned and inspected:
- Threaded ride-height adjustment sections
- Spring platforms
- Compression adjusters
- Rebound adjusters
- Electronic damper cancellation components
Cars used throughout winter should be cleaned more frequently to prevent road salt and contamination accumulating around the suspension.
