MMX Chargepipe Kit (Intake Side) | BMW N55

MMX Chargepipe Kit (Intake Side) – BMW N55 F2X, F3X & F87 M2

Improve boost reliability, airflow and throttle response on your N55-powered BMW with the MMX Intake-Side Chargepipe Kit.

Designed for BMW F-Series models including the M135i, M235i, 335i, 435i and original F87 M2, this kit replaces the factory plastic intake-side chargepipe with a lightweight aluminium alternative engineered to withstand significantly increased boost pressure and power output.

The smooth-bore mandrel-bent pipework also improves airflow compared with the original setup, while the rigid aluminium construction prevents the pipe from deforming under load or vacuum.

For standard and tuned N55 builds alike, this is a highly worthwhile reliability-focused upgrade and an ideal supporting modification for cars running increased boost.

Why Upgrade the N55 Chargepipe?

The factory N55 chargepipe is manufactured from plastic.

As boost pressure and engine output increase, the original pipework can become prone to:

• Cracking
• Splitting
• Boost leaks
• Deformation
• Sudden loss of power

MMX specifically highlights this as a common weakness of the factory system, especially on tuned cars.

The MMX aluminium replacement is designed to provide much greater strength and reliability while also improving the airflow path.

Stronger Than the Factory Plastic Pipework

The biggest reason to upgrade the N55 intake-side chargepipe is reliability.

BMW's factory plastic pipework was designed around standard boost pressure and road use.

As cars are tuned and boost increases, the plastic can become a weak point.

A split chargepipe can cause:

• Immediate boost loss
• Reduced engine performance
• Warning lights
• Limp mode
• Poor throttle response

The MMX aluminium chargepipe removes this plastic failure point and provides a much stronger replacement.

Ideal for Tuned N55 Engines

The MMX chargepipe becomes particularly valuable as boost pressure increases.

It is well suited to:

• Standard N55 engines
• Stage 1 tuned cars
• Stage 2 builds
• Higher-boost applications
• Hybrid turbo setups
• Fast-road vehicles
• Track-day cars

Even on a standard engine, replacing the original plastic chargepipe can be considered a preventative reliability upgrade.

Smooth-Bore Mandrel-Bent Pipework

MMX uses smooth-bore mandrel-bent aluminium pipework rather than the more restrictive factory arrangement.

This creates a cleaner internal airflow path with fewer abrupt changes and less turbulence.

Potential benefits include:

• Improved airflow
• Reduced restriction
• Better throttle response
• Improved turbo efficiency
• Better support for increased power

MMX specifically states that the smoother internal path improves airflow compared with the factory system.

Prevents Pipe Deformation

Plastic and soft intake components can deform as pressure and vacuum conditions change.

The rigid aluminium construction of the MMX chargepipe maintains its internal shape even under increased load.

This helps ensure the airflow path remains consistent regardless of engine demand.

Improved Throttle Response

Reducing restriction and preventing pipe deformation can help make the engine feel more responsive.

MMX specifically highlights improved throttle response as one of the benefits of the kit.

This can be particularly noticeable on tuned N55 engines where boost pressure and airflow demand are increased.

Helps Support Increased Power

A chargepipe does not create large power gains on its own.

Its main purpose is to improve reliability and reduce restriction within the pressurised intake system.

However, MMX states that the improved airflow path can ultimately contribute to increased power output when used as part of a tuned setup.

1/8-Inch Auxiliary Bung

The MMX Intake-Side Chargepipe includes a 1/8-inch auxiliary bung.

This provides a convenient connection point for:

• Water injection
• Methanol injection
• Water/methanol systems

This makes the pipe particularly useful for more advanced performance builds.

Water / Methanol Injection Compatibility

Water/methanol injection is sometimes used on tuned turbocharged engines to help manage intake temperatures and support higher-performance calibrations.

The integrated 1/8-inch bung means additional fabrication is not required to add a suitable injection connection point.

Any water or methanol system should be installed and calibrated professionally.

Full OEM Replacement

The MMX chargepipe is designed as a full replacement for the original intake-side pipework.

It uses the factory-style mounting positions and connections, making installation straightforward for compatible applications.

MMX describes the system as a direct OEM replacement with no vehicle modifications required.

Included Seals

The kit includes the required seals for accurate and consistent connections.

Correct sealing is particularly important in a turbocharged intake system because even small leaks can result in:

• Lost boost pressure
• Reduced power
• Poor throttle response
• Engine management issues

Fully Reversible Installation

No permanent modifications are required.

The original factory chargepipe can therefore be reinstalled later if required.

This makes the MMX kit suitable for owners who want a high-quality upgrade without permanently altering the vehicle.

Crinkle-Black Finish

The MMX aluminium chargepipe is finished in a durable crinkle-black coating.

This gives the component:

• Additional surface protection
• OEM-style engine-bay appearance
• Durable finish
• Subtle performance look

Laser-etched MMX branding adds a clean finishing detail.

Intake-Side vs Turbo-Side Chargepipe

MMX offers separate chargepipe upgrades for both sides of the N55 boost system.

This product replaces the intake-side pipework.

MMX also offers a Turbo-Side Chargepipe under part number MMR02-0502.

The two products address different sections of the charge-air system.

Recommended with the MMX Turbo-Side Chargepipe

MMX specifically recommends fitting the Intake-Side Chargepipe alongside its matching Turbo-Side Chargepipe.

Upgrading both sides creates a more complete N55 chargepipe solution.

Benefits include:

• Removal of additional factory plastic pipework
• Improved overall boost reliability
• Smoother airflow
• More complete support for higher boost
• Matching construction and finish

Ideal Supporting Upgrade for an Intercooler

The chargepipe kit works particularly well alongside an upgraded intercooler.

A typical N55 charge-air upgrade path may include:

• Performance intercooler
• Intake-side chargepipe
• Turbo-side chargepipe
• Intake upgrade
• ECU tuning

Together, these components improve both airflow and reliability throughout the forced-induction system.

Standard & Tuned Applications

The MMX chargepipe is suitable for a wide range of N55 builds.

Standard Cars

Provides a preventative upgrade against factory plastic pipe failure.

Stage 1 Cars

Especially worthwhile due to increased boost pressure.

Stage 2 Cars

A highly recommended supporting modification alongside intercooler and exhaust upgrades.

Higher-Power Builds

Provides stronger pipework and an integrated injection bung for more advanced setups.
