MMX G8x Drive Shaft Heat Shield (Pair)

MMX Driveshaft Heat Shield Pair – BMW G87 M2, G80/G81 M3 & G82/G83 M4

Protect the rear drivetrain of your BMW G8X M car from excessive exhaust heat with the MMX Driveshaft Heat Shield Kit.

Designed for the BMW G87 M2, G80/G81 M3 and G82/G83 M4, these precision-made heat shields sit between the exhaust system and the rear driveshaft CV boots, helping reduce radiant heat exposure and protect the surrounding drivetrain components.

This is a particularly worthwhile upgrade for track-driven cars, higher-powered builds and vehicles fitted with aftermarket exhaust systems, where additional heat can accelerate deterioration of the factory rubber CV boots.

Why Fit Driveshaft Heat Shields to Your G8X?

Under demanding use, the area around the rear differential and driveshafts can become extremely hot.

MMX highlights the factory CV boots on G8X M cars as being vulnerable to cracking and premature failure when subjected to prolonged high temperatures, particularly during hard track use or with aftermarket exhaust systems fitted.

Heat damage to the CV boots can eventually contribute to:

• Cracked rubber gaiters
• Grease leaks
• Contamination of the CV joint
• Accelerated CV joint wear
• Increased drivetrain maintenance
• Potential driveline problems

The MMX shields provide a physical thermal barrier between the exhaust and these sensitive components.

Protects the Rear CV Boots

The main purpose of the MMX heat shields is to reduce the amount of radiant exhaust heat reaching the driveshaft CV boots.

These rubber gaiters contain the lubricant required by the CV joints and help keep dirt and contamination away from the joint itself.

If excessive heat causes the rubber to harden or crack, grease can escape and contamination can enter.

Reducing heat exposure can therefore help protect both the boot and the more expensive drivetrain components behind it.

Particularly Useful for Track Cars

Track driving subjects the rear drivetrain and exhaust system to much higher sustained temperatures than normal road use.

Repeated full-load acceleration, high engine temperatures and limited cooling periods can significantly increase the amount of heat radiated into the surrounding area.

For G8X cars used for:

• Track days
• Time Attack
• Fast-road driving
• Motorsport
• High-power builds
• Repeated hard use

the MMX heat shields provide an additional layer of protection for the rear driveshaft components.

Ideal with Aftermarket Exhaust Systems

Aftermarket exhaust systems can alter the amount and location of heat around the drivetrain.

MMX specifically notes that increased exhaust heat can contribute to premature deterioration of the factory CV boots.

This makes the shields especially worthwhile on cars fitted with:

• Aftermarket rear exhaust sections
• Performance mid-pipes
• Higher-flow exhaust systems
• Modified downpipe/exhaust configurations
• Increased engine output

Even cars retaining the original exhaust can benefit where they see sustained track use.

T6-6062 Aluminium Construction

MMX manufactures the heat shields from T6-6062 aluminium.

This provides a strong balance between low weight, durability and thermal protection.

The material acts as a barrier between the hot exhaust system and the CV boots, helping deflect radiant heat away from sensitive rubber components.

Polished & Anodised Finish

The shields feature MMX's polished and anodised gloss-black finish.

This gives the components a clean, OEM-style appearance while adding surface protection suitable for use beneath the vehicle.

Although they are primarily a functional component, the finish also helps them integrate neatly with the rest of the G8X underbody.

Cost-Effective Drivetrain Protection

Heat-related CV boot failure can become an expensive problem if it is not caught early.

Once grease escapes from the boot, the CV joint can suffer accelerated wear and may eventually require more extensive repair.

MMX positions the heat shield kit as a substantially more cost-effective preventative solution than replacing complete rear driveshaft assemblies.

BMW has acknowledged the high-temperature demands placed on the rear output shaft gaiters during extreme track operation on G80, G81, G82, G83 and G87 models, with more temperature-resistant CS/CSL driveshafts being one possible repair route in certain situations.

The MMX shields aim to address the source of the heat exposure without the cost of replacing the driveshaft assemblies.

Factory or Aftermarket Exhaust Compatibility

The MMX heat shields can be used with both standard and aftermarket exhaust setups.

This makes them suitable for:

• Standard road cars
• Modified fast-road cars
• Track-day builds
• Cars with upgraded exhausts
• Higher-powered G8X models

For heavily modified vehicles, the shields are a simple supporting upgrade that can help protect components subjected to higher thermal loads.

Easy Installation

MMX states that installation can typically be completed in approximately 15–30 minutes.

The shields are designed as a straightforward bolt-on upgrade and can be fitted with the vehicle raised on:

• A workshop lift
• Suitable axle stands

No permanent modifications are required and the installation is fully reversible.

No Permanent Vehicle Modification

The kit does not require cutting, welding or permanent alteration to the vehicle.

This makes it suitable for owners who want additional protection without modifying the structure of the car.

The original configuration can be restored later if required.

Ideal Preventative Upgrade

The best time to protect the CV boots is before heat damage occurs.

For owners regularly tracking their G8X, the MMX heat shields can be treated as a preventative durability upgrade alongside other track-preparation items such as:

• High-temperature brake fluid
• Performance brake pads
• Oil cooling upgrades
• Differential servicing
• Brake cooling
• Regular suspension inspection

It is a relatively simple component that addresses a specific high-temperature issue in a vulnerable area of the drivetrain.

BMW G87 M2

The G87 M2 uses the same S58-powered G8X performance architecture and is included in MMX's fitment for the heat shield kit.

For G87 M2 owners running aftermarket exhausts or regular circuit use, the shields provide an additional layer of rear drivetrain protection.

BMW G80 / G81 M3

The kit is compatible with the BMW G80 M3 and G81 M3 Touring.

Both models can generate substantial exhaust and drivetrain temperatures during hard use, making the shields a particularly useful consideration for track-focused builds.

BMW G82 / G83 M4

The BMW G82 M4 Coupe and G83 M4 Convertible are also included in the official MMX fitment.

The shields offer the same CV boot protection for both factory and modified M4 setups.
